 Update 4/22/16

Construction Activity on the Courthouse Expansion Project Picks Up – Walkway to Close with Tunnel Opening

Starting next week, the walkway connecting the Main Courthouse and Babcox Justice Center  will be closed to allow for major work on the bridge.

The section of the bridge directly south of Washington Street will begin to be demolished on or around May 2. The other portion (over Washington Street) will undergo a makeover that includes removing the roofing, brick and windows, and transforming the appearance of the bridge’s interior.  The bridge will be closed for approximately two years.

This bridge closing means employees and the public will have to walk outside along Washington Street, or County Street, from the main entrance to Babcox (Courtrooms C120 (Bond Court), C150, C220 and C221). This is .19 miles or 1000 feet, about a three minute walk. There will be a pathway outside the south entrance of the courthouse connecting to County Street until Washington Street is opened this summer.
