The Lake County Board approved a $100 million Courthouse Expansion Project designed to increase the efficiency of the justice system and support growth of the justice agencies out to the year 2030 and beyond. The County planned and saved for this project, and is paying for it with 30% cash and bonding the balance.
The Courthouse Expansion project includes:
- Court Tower: a new 9-story, approximately 215,000 sq. ft. building with 17 new courtrooms and an unfinished space for three future courtrooms located on the southwest corner of County and Washington streets. Construction anticipated to begin in 2014.
- Washington Street Tunnel: Construction of a tunnel connecting the jail and courthouse to provide secure and efficient in-custody transfers and allow for secure staff access between the two facilities. Construction anticipated to begin in spring of 2014.
- Remodeling of the Babcox Justice Center: Remodeling of the courts, jail intake and booking and jail kitchen areas located within the Babcox Justice Center totaling approximately 45,000 sq ft. Construction anticipated to begin in 2016.
Clark and Lake County are committed to enlisting local firms on the project. Please review the Bid Opportunities page on this site to review contracting opportunities and register your interest.
